Environmental Tobacco Smoke in Slovenia

The aim of this publication is to present harmful effects of environmental tobacco smoke on the health of adults and children, effective measures to reduce exposure, the extent of exposure to environmental tobacco smoke in Slovenia and recommendations for further decrease of exposure.

In Slovenia, we introduced key legislative measures and significantly reduced the exposure to tobacco smoke among the population of Slovenia. In 2007, Slovenia imposed a ban on smoking in all indoor public and work spaces. In 2017 a complete ban on the use of related products (electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco products) in these spaces and a complete ban on smoking and the use of related products in all vehicles in the presence of persons under 18 years of age were added. But the number of those exposed is still significant; further measures are needed to reduce exposure to environmental tobacco smoke.
